Deezer vs Spotify Compared on Avoiding AI Music
How Deezer and Spotify handle AI-generated music, AI features, price, sound quality and podcasts, side by side.
Avoiding AI Music on Deezer and Spotify
Deezer is the stronger pick if you want to avoid artificial intelligence (AI) music. It tags albums that include fully AI-generated tracks and removes those tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations.
Spotify is the better pick for podcasts, audiobooks and in-app features. Spotify's AI Persona badge labels AI-generated artist identities, and Spotify keeps those artists out of recommendations unless you follow them.
As listed on Deezer's US site in October 2026, Deezer's Premium plan costs $11.99 a month in the United States (US). Spotify's Premium Individual plan costs $12.99 a month, read October 14, 2026.

The two services handle AI music with different tools. Deezer tags albums and removes tracks from recommendations, while Spotify adds an artist badge and relies on credit disclosure.
How Each Service Handles AI-Generated Music
Deezer's rules target fully AI-generated music, while Spotify's rules target AI-generated artist identities and song credits.
Deezer's Tagging and Detection
Deezer began tagging albums that include fully AI-generated tracks on June 20, 2025. Deezer says it was the first music streaming service to do so. The tag sits at album level.
At launch, Deezer said about 18% of daily uploads, more than 20,000 tracks a day, were 100% AI-generated. It said its detector identifies output from generators such as Suno and Udio.
Deezer says its tag and recommendation rules target fully AI-generated tracks, and that AI-assisted music is treated differently. Deezer says it has tagged over 14 million albums.
Between January 2025 and August 2026, Deezer says it detected and excluded more than 42 million AI-generated tracks from recommendations. It also says it receives nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks a day.
On peak days, Deezer says those tracks make up more than 50% of total daily deliveries.
Deezer cites a November 2025 Deezer/Ipsos study, which found that 45% of music streaming users would like to filter out 100% AI-generated music.
In June 2025, Deezer said up to 70% of streams of fully AI-generated tracks were fraudulent. When it detects stream manipulation, Deezer excludes those streams from royalty payments.
On October 13, 2026, Deezer announced a toggle that removes fully AI-generated tracks, albums and related artists from search results. Deezer says the toggle rolls out globally before the end of 2026, and it is not live yet.

Spotify's Badges and Credits
Spotify's September 25, 2025 policy bans unauthorized AI vocal impersonation, adds a music spam filter and backs AI disclosures in song credits. Spotify said it removed over 75 million spammy tracks in the prior 12 months.
Spotify's AI credits rely on artist and label disclosure. Spotify says, "the absence of a credit doesn't mean AI wasn't used."
On August 11, 2026, Spotify announced an AI Persona badge for AI-generated artist identities, which appears from mid-September 2026. Spotify excludes those artists from editorial and algorithmic recommendations unless you follow them.
Spotify doesn't offer a listener toggle to hide AI music, and its announcement doesn't mention one.
AI Features Inside Each App
The Spotify features are DJ, Prompted Playlist and Smart Shuffle. On Deezer, the feature listed is Flow, a personalized mix.
Spotify DJ is a Premium "personal music companion" that picks music and talks between tracks. Spotify doesn't have an off switch for DJ.
Prompted Playlist (Beta) generates a playlist from a text description. It works on Premium on mobile, in English only, and refreshes daily or weekly.
Smart Shuffle mixes recommendations into your playlists. Premium users can switch off the setting named "Include Smart Shuffle in play modes." On Free mobile, Smart Shuffle "is always active."
Deezer Flow is "a never-ending, personalized mix" that Deezer says combines "human curation and machine learning." Its moods include Focus, Chill and Melancholy.
Flow is a recommendation feature. Deezer doesn't say Flow excludes AI tracks by name, but its recommendations exclude detected fully AI-generated tracks.
Spotify's documented switch is for Smart Shuffle, and Deezer's search toggle is announced but not live. Our guide to blocking AI music on Spotify is the next step for Spotify users.
Price and Plans in the United States
Deezer's Premium plan costs $11.99 a month in the US, and Spotify's Premium Individual plan costs $12.99 a month.
Deezer's prices come from an archived capture of its US plans page dated October 6, 2026, and the archive was read on October 14, 2026. Deezer's page shows dollar amounts without a currency code, so we treat them as US dollars.
Spotify's prices come from its US Premium page, read on October 14, 2026.
Deezer lists these US prices.
- Premium: $11.99 a month, or $107.99 a year ($9.00 a month).
- Duo, for 2 accounts: $15.99 a month, or $174.99 a year.
- Family, for 6 accounts: $19.99 a month, or $218.99 a year.
- Student, for 1 account: $5.99 a month.
Spotify lists these US prices.
- Premium Individual: $12.99 a month.
- Premium Duo, for 2 accounts at the same address: $18.99 a month.
- Premium Family, for up to 6 accounts at the same address: $21.99 a month.
- Premium Student, for verified students at accredited institutions: $6.99 a month. It includes Hulu, subject to eligibility.
Both services list a free ad-supported tier and a free one-month trial for eligible new users.
At monthly prices, the Individual gap is $1.00 a month ($12.99 minus $11.99), or $12.00 over a year. The Duo gap is $3.00 a month ($18.99 minus $15.99). The Family gap is $2.00 a month ($21.99 minus $19.99).
The Student gap is $1.00 a month ($6.99 minus $5.99).
Before you pay, check current prices on Deezer's US plans page and Spotify's US Premium page, because both figures are dated reads.
Sound Quality, Catalog and Podcasts
Spotify and Deezer both offer lossless audio on their paid plans, but the launch details differ.
Spotify Lossless launched for Premium on September 10, 2025, and streams up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. Spotify says it was in more than 50 markets, including the US, by October 6, 2025. The launch page does not mention an extra charge.
Deezer HiFi streams FLAC, which Deezer describes as "lossless, CD quality." It is included in the Premium, Duo and Family plans, and not in the free plan.
Deezer doesn't say what bit depth or sample rate its HiFi audio uses.
Deezer Free includes the catalog, podcasts and personalized mixes. It does not include ad-free listening, pick and play, offline listening or HiFi sound.
Spotify says it has over 100 million tracks, 7 million podcast titles and 700,000 audiobooks, in 184 markets. It also says it has 777 million users, including 300 million subscribers.
Deezer says it has over 120 million tracks and thousands of podcasts. It also says it is available in more than 180 countries.
Deezer gives no podcast count beyond "thousands," so the podcast gap cannot be measured exactly from the two companies' own figures.
Spotify includes 15 hours a month of audiobook listening on Premium Individual, Duo and Family. On the Family plan, only the plan manager gets those 15 hours.
How Artists Are Paid
Deezer and Universal Music Group (UMG) announced an artist-centric payout model on September 6, 2023. Spotify has required a royalty threshold since April 1, 2024.
Deezer and UMG said the model would launch in France in the fourth quarter of 2023. It gives a double boost to professional artists, defined as those with at least 1,000 streams a month from at least 500 unique listeners.
It also gives a double boost to songs that fans actively engage with. Non-artist noise content is replaced with Deezer's own content, which sits outside the royalty pool.
Spotify requires at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months before a track generates recorded royalties. Spotify for Artists describes this change in its royalty system post.
The two rules work differently. Spotify sets a floor for any recorded royalty, while Deezer's model boosts professional artists who clear a monthly stream and listener threshold.
Deezer also excludes streams it detects as manipulation from royalty payments, as covered in the AI section above.
Who Should Pick Deezer or Spotify
Pick Deezer if avoiding AI-generated music matters most. Pick Spotify if podcasts, audiobooks or in-app features matter most.
Deezer
- Best for: listeners who want albums with fully AI-generated tracks tagged and kept out of algorithmic and editorial recommendations.
- Best for: people who want lower US prices, at $11.99 a month for Premium and $5.99 a month for Student as listed on Deezer's US site in October 2026.
- Skip it if: podcasts and audiobooks matter most to you, since Deezer gives only "thousands of podcasts."
- Skip it if: you need the AI search toggle today, because Deezer says it is not live yet.
Spotify
- Best for: podcast and audiobook listeners, since Spotify publishes 7 million podcast titles and 700,000 audiobooks.
- Best for: people who use DJ, Prompted Playlist or Smart Shuffle.
- Skip it if: you want fully AI-generated tracks filtered out of recommendations, because the AI Persona badge covers artist identities.
- Skip it if: you want a listener toggle to hide AI music, since Spotify does not offer one.
Two developments would change this pick. A Spotify listener toggle, or Spotify labeling individual AI tracks, would each shift the answer.
