How to Tell If a Song Is AI Generated Before You Stream It
Spot AI-made songs on streaming services so you can avoid them before you press play.
How to Check If a Song Is AI Generated
Start with the platform label, then the artist's footprint, then the audio, and read any detector score last. Deezer's research and development (R&D) head, Manuel Mousallam, told the Associated Press (AP) that the "most obvious cues" come from external factors.
Mousallam also said "it can be difficult to tell if a track is AI-generated just from listening." These checks help you spot AI music before you stream or share it.
- Check the platform label. Deezer tags albums that contain fully AI-generated tracks with the label "AI-generated content." Spotify shows voluntary AI credits, and a missing credit does not mean AI was not used.
- Check the artist's footprint. AP suggests checking whether the artist has social media accounts, upcoming concerts with tickets on sale, or past concert footage on YouTube.
- Listen for tells, and expect them to be weak. AP reports that older identifiers such as a distinctive vocal reverb may no longer apply.
- Read any detector score as a claim. Deezer estimates its own detector may miss 0.2% of AI-generated tracks, so a score is not proof.
No single check settles the question, so read the label, the footprint and the score together before you decide.
Platform Labels and What Each One Covers
| Service | What it labels | Where you see it | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deezer | Albums that contain fully AI-generated tracks, tagged "AI-generated content" | On the album, in the Deezer app and website | The tag applies at the album level rather than the track level |
| Spotify | Voluntary AI credits that artists share, including through their label or distributor | Song Credits on mobile | Credits are voluntary and a beta feature, and a missing credit does not mean AI was not used |
| YouTube | Creator disclosure of realistic AI-generated or altered content | The video player, where a label may appear | Depends on creator disclosure, and YouTube may also apply labels automatically. YouTube doesn't say for YouTube Music. |
Deezer says tagged music stays on Deezer. Songs detected as AI-generated are automatically removed from algorithmic recommendations and are not included in editorial playlists. Deezer says it will take down generative-AI tracks used for fraudulent streams. It will also take down tracks that have not been streamed for six months or more. Deezer does not say it removes all AI music.
On October 13, 2026, Deezer said it will launch a toggle before the end of 2026. The toggle would remove fully AI-generated tracks, albums and related artists from search results. The toggle has been announced and is not live yet.
Spotify's credits are a beta feature that is rolling out, according to ABC News (Australia). They tell listeners "if and how" AI was used. Spotify says disclosure "is not about punishing artists who use AI responsibly."
Spotify's impersonation policy says "vocal impersonation is only allowed in music on Spotify when the impersonated artist has authorized the usage." For a side-by-side view of the two services, read Deezer and Spotify compared.
Check the Artist's Footprint
AP suggests checking whether the artist has social media accounts, upcoming concerts with tickets on sale, or past concert footage on YouTube. It also suggests checking for releases on an established record label.
Some songs can be traced on Suno or Udio by track name or creator handle. That lookup needs an account, according to AP.
The Velvet Sundown shows which signals drew suspicion. Straight Arrow News (SAN) reports that the band released the album Floating on Echoes on June 5, 2025. The band reached 1,230,815 monthly Spotify listeners within about a month.
Suspicion grew from AI-looking group photos and album art. It also grew from a band that gave no interviews and had no contact point. Rick Beato's June 30 video pointed to audio artifacts, per SAN.
On July 3, the band disavowed "Andrew Frelon," a person who had given interviews claiming to speak for it. On July 5, the band confirmed on its social media account that its music was made with AI. Its Spotify bio was then updated to mention the "support of artificial intelligence."
Before you assume a band is real, check whether it can be found outside its streaming pages.
What AI Vocals and Mixes Sound Like
AP and Deezer both say the audible tells that once helped listeners are weakening. AP says weak lyrics with bad rhymes or repetitive structure may be a clue, but that judgment is subjective.
AP quotes Lukas Rams, who said the frequent use of "neon," "shadows" or "whispers" in Suno's lyrics is "a dead giveaway."
Deezer reports a November 2025 survey of 9,000 people in 8 countries. In a blind test, 97% of those people could not tell fully AI-generated music from human-made music. Eighty percent agreed that 100% AI-generated music should be clearly labeled.

Do AI Music Detectors Work?
Each accuracy figure below is the claim of the tool's maker.
Deezer launched a free online AI music detector on June 11, 2026, at its AI music detector page. You connect your account on another streaming service, and the detector scans your playlists. Deezer says it supports 20 platforms in 27 languages.
Deezer claims its detector "detects 100% AI-generated music with 99.8% accuracy." It estimates that it "may miss 0.2% of AI-generated tracks (2 out of 1,000)." That figure has not been independently verified.
Deezer also says it applied for two patents on its detection method in December 2024.
Ircam Amplify markets its AI Music Detector (AIMD) to streaming services, distributors, labels, collecting societies and publishers, not to consumers. It claims "99% accuracy" and "Less than 1% false positives."
SubmitHub offers an AI Song Checker that it lists among its free tools. Its page states no accuracy figure.
How Much AI Music Is on Streaming Services
At the June 2025 launch, Deezer said 18% of daily uploads, more than 20,000 tracks a day, were fully AI-generated. By July 21, 2026, Deezer said it received nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks every day.
At a June 2026 peak, Deezer reports that fully AI-generated music was "more than 50% of total uploads of new music."
Deezer says fully AI-generated music accounts for about 1% to 3% of streams on Deezer. It also says up to 85% of the streams generated by those tracks were fraudulent in 2025. It excludes fraudulent streams from royalties.
On October 13, 2026, Deezer said it had detected more than 42 million AI-generated tracks between January 2025 and August 2026. It removed them from algorithmic and editorial recommendations. Deezer also said more than 14 million albums have been tagged as AI-generated.
Spotify says it sees "tens of thousands of AI credits submitted daily." In the 12 months before September 25, 2025, it removed "over 75 million spammy tracks," Spotify says. On the same date, Spotify said a spam filter would identify uploaders and tracks engaging in spam tactics, tag them, and stop recommending them.
