Can You Block AI Music on Spotify?

Spotify doesn't have a listener setting that filters artificial intelligence (AI) music out of your feed. Spotify labels AI Persona artists and leaves them out of recommendations unless you follow them.

If you want to avoid AI music on Spotify, you have these options:

  1. Keep the AI Persona default, which applies without any action from you and only to artists Spotify labels.
  2. Block one artist with "Don't play this artist" in the Spotify mobile app.
  3. Turn off Autoplay so the app stops playing similar songs after an album or playlist ends.
  4. Switch off Smart Shuffle with "Include Smart Shuffle in play modes" if you are a Premium user on mobile.
  5. Check song credits for AI credits, which are in beta and visible only to listeners on mobile.
  6. Exclude playlists and tracks from your taste profile so they stop shaping your recommendations.
  7. Switch to Deezer, which tags albums that contain fully AI-generated tracks.

What Spotify's AI Persona Label Does

On August 11, 2026, Spotify announced an "AI Persona" badge for artist profiles whose identity is AI-generated and "does not represent a real person." Spotify says the badge "is about the artist's public identity, not about how the music was made."

The badge is set to appear on artist profiles, in the banner and About section, in Search, and on track rows across playlists. Spotify said it would start appearing in mid-September 2026.

By default, Spotify leaves AI Personas out of editorial and algorithmic recommendations "unless you follow" them.

Artists can self-disclose as an AI Persona in Spotify for Artists. Spotify says it "won't rely on self-disclosure alone," and its review team also applies the badge. That review starts with artists who meet audience thresholds, and labeled artists can appeal.

Spotify said listeners will be able to report artist profiles they believe are AI Personas "in the coming months." That report option is not yet a documented step.

Neither Spotify's announcement nor TechCrunch's coverage describes a listener toggle or filter that hides AI music. Spotify says a human-fronted artist who uses AI tools would not get the badge.

Steps to Cut AI Tracks From Your Feed

Spotify doesn't offer a way to filter AI tracks as a group.

Block One Artist With Don't Play This Artist

No official Spotify support article documents this option. A January 2019 press report and a Spotify Community discussion describe it, so the steps below rest on secondary reporting.

  1. Open the artist's page in the Spotify mobile app.
  2. Tap the three dots on the artist's profile.
  3. Choose "Don't play this artist." On some Android versions the option reads "Don't play this."

The block applies to the artist across your account. Songs where that artist is featured on someone else's track may also play. Nobody says whether the option exists on desktop.

Turn Off Autoplay

Spotify's Autoplay help page says Autoplay plays similar songs after an album, playlist or set of songs ends.

On mobile or tablet:

  1. Tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap "Settings and privacy."
  3. Under "Playback," switch off "Autoplay."

On desktop:

  1. Click your profile picture.
  2. Click "Settings."
  3. Switch off "Autoplay."

Turn Off Smart Shuffle

Spotify's Smart Shuffle help page describes the feature as one that "keeps your listening sessions fresh by mixing in recommendations that match the vibe." On Spotify Free mobile, Smart Shuffle "is always active," and no off switch is documented for that plan.

Premium users on mobile can remove it:

  1. Tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap "Settings and privacy," then "Playback."
  3. Switch off "Include Smart Shuffle in play modes."

Exclude Playlists and Tracks From Your Taste Profile

Spotify's taste profile help page explains how to keep a playlist or track from shaping recommendations. Only playlists and tracks can be excluded, not artists.

  1. Open the playlist and tap the three-dot icon.
  2. Choose "Exclude from your taste profile." For a single track, the option reads "Exclude track from your taste profile."

The option works on iPhone, Android and desktop. To undo it, choose "Include in your taste profile." Exclusions take effect within 48 hours, and Discover Weekly may not change until the following week.

Hide and Snooze work differently. Hide stops a song playing within that particular playlist, and Snooze can snooze a track for 30 days. Neither one changes your taste profile.

Check Song Credits for AI Credits

Spotify's AI credits show when a specific part of a track, such as lyrics, vocals, instrumental performances or production, was generated with AI. Artists submit them through their distributor, and only some distributors support them. Spotify does not add them itself.

The feature is in beta and "only visible to listeners on mobile." You can find AI credits in Song credits and the Now Playing view. They do not appear on artist profiles or as track-level labels.

Spotify's update to its September 2025 post says the beta launched April 16, 2026, with tens of thousands of AI credits submitted daily. Spotify also says that "the absence of a credit doesn't mean AI wasn't used."

Spotify's Own AI Features

Two Spotify features are not covered by the controls above. DJ is described as "your personal music companion," and Prompted Playlist builds a playlist from a description you type.

Spotify's DJ help page says DJ is for Premium users. You can start it from the DJ icon on Home, by searching "DJ" in Search, or from Now Playing. There's no way to turn DJ off or remove it.

Prompted Playlist (Beta)

Prompted Playlist is in beta. It is for Premium on mobile, and it works in English only. To create one:

  1. Go to Your Library, then tap "Create."
  2. Tap "Prompted Playlist," then describe the vibe you want.
  3. Choose a daily or weekly refresh, then tap "Generate playlist."

There's no off switch. Avoiding the feature means not creating a Prompted Playlist.

YouTube Music

YouTube Music's help page describes feedback options for content. Long-press an item and choose "Not interested," "Don't recommend artist" or "Don't recommend channel."

Your past feedback is managed in one place:

  1. Tap your profile photo.
  2. Tap Settings, then Privacy & data.
  3. Tap "Manage my feedback."

The YouTube Music help page does not mention AI-generated music, and no AI filter is documented.

YouTube requires creators to disclose realistic altered or synthetic content, and its help page lists "AI generated music" as an example. For music, the label may appear in the video player.

YouTube says it may apply an AI label itself. That can happen for content made with its own generative AI tools, or for content its systems detect as AI-generated.

When Switching Services Adds AI Tagging

Deezer launched its AI tagging system on June 20, 2025. The system labels albums that contain fully AI-generated tracks and excludes those tracks from algorithmic and editorial recommendations.

Deezer says it detected and excluded more than 42 million AI-generated tracks from recommendations between January 2025 and August 2026. It also says it has tagged over 14 million albums.

On October 13, 2026, Deezer announced a toggle to exclude fully AI-generated tracks, albums and related artists from search results. Deezer says it will launch globally "before the end of 2026." It is not yet available.

The toggle applies to search. Recommendations already exclude tracks that Deezer detects as AI-generated.

Compare the options first in our Deezer and Spotify comparison and our guide to Spotify alternatives.

Two developments would change this answer. If Spotify adds a listener filter for AI music, the steps above would need an update. Once Deezer's search toggle launches, Deezer search results could exclude fully AI-generated music.
